Debi (Conro) Goldben is a freelance writer who was born and raised in a small farming community in northern Illinois. Animals have always been a part of her life. Her family attended many horse shows and also founded the local horse club. Debi was active in 4-H for almost 30 years: first as a member, then as project coordinator, and later a club leader. In 2000, she was honored as a 4-H Distinguished Alumni. Debi judged local horse shows for several years and worked alongside her husband who managed boarding stables, swine operations, and cattle facilities.
Rabbits came on the scene in the mid 90s when a rabbit was purchased at a horse auction for her young son (who really wanted a dog ... and later settled for a cat). Debi and her daughter became the rabbit enthusiasts of the family and soon spent almost every weekend at rabbit shows. For most of the past 15 years, mother and daughter have attended local, state and national shows across the country where Debi is often found writing for one of the judges. Ms. Goldben has been heavily involved in state and local rabbit clubs, often serving as an officer or a director. She was part of the Illinois Mini Rex Rabbit Club team when it hosted Mini Rex Nationals several years ago. Debi has assisted with all facets of organizing rabbit shows and held the positions of secretary and superintendent.
Writing has always been one of Debi’s passions. She wrote articles, poems, and short stories for her school newspaper. In the early 80s, she helped to write and edit an extensive horse project manual, Proper Show Ring Procedure and Etiquette, which was used by the State of Illinois 4-H program. In more recent years, several of her how-to articles have been published in state and local rabbit club magazines.
Debi works full time as the Marketing Coordinator for a group of feed stores in central Florida. She also designs websites for rabbitries, kennels, farms, clubs and organizations in her spare time and is helping her granddaughter become a third generation rabbit enthusiast. Debi meets regularly with Women Word Weavers and her next projects include a compilation of daily inspirational messages and also a book about starting and promoting a rabbit club.
